Message from the Director’s Heart - August 2011

Today a preemie weighing 7 lbs. at the age of three months came into Mercy Community Crisis Pregnancy Center along with her mother and big brother, age 4.  Dad was at work in his efforts to support his young family.  Along with receiving a few items for summer and diapers, the young mom had the opportunity to talk with one of our volunteers – a conversation with an adult in the middle of her day.  How refreshed she was by the interaction.  The knowledge she gained regarding parenting and her relationship with Jesus during the conversation with the Mercy volunteer was an investment with long lasting results.

The preemie slept while her mom talked with the volunteer.  The four year old played with a few toys.  In that small room, there were at least two infants – the preemie, and the young mom who is a babe in Christ.  We at Mercy have the opportunity and privilege of realizing new life – babies born to our clients who would have otherwise been aborted, and spiritual births – individuals who pray to receive Christ as Savior and Lord.  Words cannot be found to describe either one.

Faithful volunteers and staff dedicate their time and talent to serve the Lord in this vast harvest field.  The ministry of Mercy continues to be a beacon of light in this darkened world.  Yes, sin abounds, but I am reminded of the words of Paul, “…but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 5:20b - 21

Do you desire to serve the Lord without leaving your home and job for several weeks?  Would you like to make a difference by investing with eternity’s values in mind?  Perhaps you are not available on a weekly basis to volunteer, but you do have a few hours.

Each year Mercy holds a Walk for Life event in September.  This annual fund raising event serves a two-fold purpose:  raising necessary funds and providing an opportunity for individuals and groups to actively engage in supporting a local ministry.

If you are unable to participate on Saturday, September 10th, walk on your own and send the sponsor form/s to Mercy.  Various churches have found it beneficial to schedule a walk at their church, ex: prior to Sunday School, after Morning Worship Service, as part of a group meeting (youth, ladies, men’s), or Bible Study.  This is an opportunity to involve individuals and families in supporting a local mission – without traveling to a foreign mission.

Prayerfully consider how you can join God in the work that He is accomplishing in and through the ministry of Mercy CCPC.  Changed hearts, and lives through salvation in Jesus Christ results in changed families, and communities.  Mercy – building a bridge from the street to the local church, making a difference for time and eternity.  Be part of His work.
